Palit: Mining Reduces GPU Performance by 10% Per Year | news

Video cards lose 10% of their maximum performance per year when used for mining. This was announced by the Polish portal benchmark.pl with reference to representatives of the Palit company.

According to them, this fact must be taken into account when buying used GPUs that enter the market as the value of cryptocurrencies decreases. Such video cards are unlikely to give out peak performance, or even be close to breakdown.

Palit representatives noted that first of all, when buying used devices, it is necessary to pay attention to the condition of the cooling system, as well as whether the product has been disassembled. Despite the fact that many miners reduce peak frequencies in order to extend the life of the GPU, buying such devices will be a risk one way or another. At the same time, even if the warranty period of the video card has not expired, the manufacturer may refuse to exchange or repair it if it becomes known that it was used to extract cryptocurrency.
