Matteo Bruni, director of the Vatican’s communications office, briefed the media on the telephone conversation between Pope Francis and Palestinian President Muhammad Abbas. Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that the president thanked Pope Francis for his efforts to build peace during the talks held yesterday evening.
Wafa also reported that President Abbas underlined the importance of the Vatican’s continued intervention to demand an immediate ceasefire and save civilians from the brutality of war. To bring medicine, food, water and electricity to Gaza
Wafa reported that Abbas also expressed the need to create a permanent humanitarian corridor. The Pope has repeated his call for peace several times since the conflict began on October 7. Pope Francis, who is in daily contact with the Parish Priest of the Holy Family in Gaza, has proposed a two-state solution with the presidents of the United States and Turkey to find ways for peace and to give a special place to Jerusalem.
