Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Announces Review of Relationship with US After UN Veto

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced today that his Palestinian Authority will “review” its relationship with the United States following America’s veto of a United Nations resolution on Palestinian membership in the United Nations, France Press reported, cited by BTA.

“The Palestinian leadership will review bilateral relations with the United States to ensure that we preserve the interests of our people, our cause and our rights,” Abbas said in an interview with the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

On Thursday, the US vetoed a UN Security Council resolution to admit Palestine as a full member of the world body. The Palestinian Authority controls parts of the West Bank occupied by Israel.

DPA carried other quotes from the interview in which Abbas accused Washington of not keeping promises.

“The United States broke all international laws and did not keep any of its commitments regarding the resolution of the conflict (in the Middle East) on the principle of two states (Israel and Palestine) and the establishment of peace in the region. “, said the Palestinian. President in front of Wafa.

He says that the SAA must understand that the region will not stand without a unified solution to the Palestinian issue. The president of the Palestinian Authority also criticized America’s support for Israel, for example the supply of weapons from the United States to Tel Aviv during the conflict in the Gaza Strip that began on October 7 last year.

Abbas described the US veto of the UN Security Council resolution as “disappointing” and “irresponsible”, DPA notes.
