/ world today news/ On November 5, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the city of Ramallah on the West Bank.
According to Al Jazeera’s report, during the meeting Abbas stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire and to allow humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza Strip. Security and peace can only be achieved by ending Israel’s military rule over the Palestinian territories and recognizing East Jerusalem as its capital, Abbas said.
Blinken, for his part, said the Palestinian Authority must play a central role in the next steps in Gaza. He reiterated that the United States will continue to promote the equal right to dignity and security for both peoples and the realization of the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinians to establish their own state.
