Palestinian Olympic soccer coach dies in Gaza

Former football player and general coach of the Palestinian national Olympic team, Hani Al Masdar, “Abu Al Abd”, has died after being hit by shrapnel from a missile launched by an Israeli plane near his home in the village of Al Masdar. , in the Gaza Strip, as reported by the Palestinian Football Agency in a statement.

Al Masdar, 42, began his career as a player in the ranks of Al Maghazi Club, later joining Gaza Sports Club until 2018, the year in which he retired.

After this, he became the technical director of his last team and in 2021 he joined the Olympic team as general coach. He participated in the 2021 Asian Qualifiers in Jordan, the 2023 Arab Games in Algeria and the 2023 Asian Games in China, among others.

The organization has reported that since October 7, 88 male and female players from various sports have died, of which 67 were soccer players. 24 administrators and technicians have also died, eight people from the sports movement have been arrested and 15 sports facilities have been targets of attacks.
