Ashtiye said that he has submitted the government’s resignation to President Abbas. (Reuters)
The Palestinian government announced its resignation.
Prime Minister Ashtiye said that he has submitted the resignation of the government to President Abbas. The relevant decision is to allow the Palestinian people to form a broad consensus on the political arrangements after Israel launches a war against Hamas.
Ashtiyeh believes that the next phase requires new governmental and political arrangements that take into account the emerging realities in the Gaza Strip, national unity negotiations, and the urgent need for internal Palestinian consensus. He also called for the power of the Palestinian National Authority to be transferred , extending to the entire land of Palestine.
Foreign news agencies reported that the United States hopes that after the war is over, Gaza will be governed by a reformed Palestinian Authority. Ashtiyeh’s resignation shows that the Palestinian leadership supported by the West is willing to accept reforms.
