The president of Palestine, Mahmud Abbas, thanked the Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, this Thursday for his decision to break diplomatic relations as of this Thursday with Israel “for having a genocidal government and president.”
Through a statement, the Palestinian authority affirmed that these noble positions adopted by Colombia, the government and the people, constitute an example for the world to follow.
In this sense, he reiterated his call to the international community to “adopt more decisive positions against the crimes of genocide against the Palestinian people”, as well as to respect the Security Council resolution that demanded an “immediate” ceasefire. and the precautionary measures of the International Court of Justice.
During his speech this Wednesday, to commemorate Workers’ Day, in the Plaza de Bolívar, in Bogotá, the country’s capital, Petro announced that Colombia is breaking relations with Israel as of this Thursday, May 2.
According to the president, “it cannot be, it cannot return, the times of genocide, of the extermination of an entire people before our eyes, before our passivity, cannot come.”
“The world could be summed up in one word that vindicates the necessity of life: Gaza. It is called Palestine, it is called the boys, girls and babies who have died dismembered by the bombs,” he declared.
The Israeli occupation army’s attacks on the Gaza Strip have left more than 34,500 Palestinians killed and more than 77,700 injured, most of them women and children.
