Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Donald Trump had a telephone conversation and the US president-elect pledged to work “to end the war”, the Palestinian presidency announced today.
During the conversation, President Abbas congratulated Donald Trump on his election victory, wished him success and said he was ready to work with him “to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on international legitimacy,” the statement said of the presidency.
For his part, Trump, who will return to the White House on January 20, underlined that he “will work to end the war” and that he is “ready to work with President Abbas and the interested parties in the region and the world for the consolidation of peace in the region,” the announcement added.
Israel, of which the United States is a staunch ally, has been waging war against Palestinian Hamas in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, and against Lebanon’s Hezbollah on its northern border. Both organizations are supported by Iran.
