Tank-tank Israel reportedly started breaking into the Al Shifa Hospital complex in the Gaza Strip Palestinepreparing to attack the largest medical facility in the region on Wednesday (15/11).
“We could see them (the Israeli military) aiming tank guns towards the hospital. We were not sure whether soldiers were inside [gedung] hospital, but their tanks are inside the compound,” a Palestinian news agency reporter said He diedKhader Al Za’anoun, kepada CNN.
Reported CNN, Al Za’anoun said that gunfire was also increasingly heard near the hospital grounds. Several windows in one of the hospital buildings were closed.
A doctor at Al Shifa Hospital, Ahmed Mokhallalati, said that Israeli tanks and bulldozers had entered the hospital grounds.
“We saw tanks and bulldozers at the central (RS) building,” Mokhallalati was quoted as saying Al Jazeera.
“Massive gunfire is still going on, and we hear explosions everywhere,” he added.
The attack on Al Shifa Hospital took place after the Israeli army continued to bombard the area around the hospital complex for the last four hours.
The Israeli military accused Hamas of hiding its command center under Al Shifa hospital.
Israel accuses Hamas of using the hospital and tunnels beneath it to hide military operations and hundreds of hostages. Hamas denies the accusation.
The Israeli military even announced that it was preparing an attack on Al Shifa Hospital with what they called “military operations targeting” several areas at Al Shifa Hospital.
Israel also urged the Hamas militia to surrender or they would storm Al Shifa Hospital. Israeli troops even claimed they only gave 30 minutes’ warning before starting the attack on the hospital complex.
Al Shifa Hospital is the largest in Gaza. Currently, the hospital still accommodates at least 650 patients and 7 thousand Gaza residents.
Mokhallalati said around 100 patients were in critical condition.
Quoted Al Jazeera, Mokhallalati said that Israeli shooting and bombardment around the hospital had continued for the last four hours.
Israeli drones and tanks have continued to surround Al Shifa Hospital since last weekend, with every moving object becoming a target for fire.
Doctors and hospital administrators said hospital conditions were inhumane, with bodies strewn in front of the hospital gates. One of the medical officers at the hospital was also killed by an Israeli drone when he was about to approach the incubator for premature babies.
One family was even reportedly shot dead by Israel when they were leaving Al Shifa Hospital.
