Palermo, la Rinascente risks closure: no agreement on the rent

At the end of the month the Rinascente in via Roma in Palermo could close, given that the rental contract will expire on September 30th and at the moment it has not been renewed even if the negotiations – in which the Municipality of Palermo was involved, as an arbitrator to find a solution – are underway to avoid the closure of the historic warehouse .

So far, as Mariella Pagliaro reports in an article in the Giornale di Sicilia on newsstands, the negotiations between the Rinascente group and Fabrica Immobiliare – the asset management company that owns the building in via Roma, on behalf of pension investors including Arches – I’m at a standstill. The latest proposal to reduce the annual costs of the rent dates back to 18 May but would have been rejected by Rinascente: the rent is two million and 400 thousand euros a year for a property of over 4 thousand square meters.

“Only a month ago Rinascente communicated to the trade unions the next expiry of the contract scheduled for the end of September – explains the secretary general Uiltucs Sicilia Marianna Flauto -. The cause of this decision is linked to the impossibility of renegotiating the rental contract, a price too high compared to the market value “. The hope is that the negotiations will restart on the Roman table.
