The exhibition, the organizers explain and the Arenas City Council collects through a press release, is aimed at all the inhabitants and visitors of Arenas de San Pedro and the Valle del Tiétar and has the objective of “bringing closer and showing a part of the current plastic artistic panorama”. This exhibition is also part of the cultural project that Grupo Arte-Son develops in Valle del Tiétar to promote art and make contemporary artists known in rural areas as well. Some group exhibitions that always take place, as also happens in Arenas de San Pedro, in noble buildings of high historical and cultural value, such as the Palace of the Infante don Luis de Borbón and in this case with the intention that works of art and historic buildings enter “in dialogue and provide mutual feedback”.
‘Palacio 16’, they explain from the Arenas de San Pedro City Council, has in this edition the participation of 45 national and international artists, all of them «of very good workmanship and artistic craft, seeking to generate in the viewer an opening towards understanding of contemporary art”.
The exhibition, as has happened in previous years, includes a series of activities that “accentuate the interaction of people with art, and facilitate the experience of aesthetic contemplation.” Thus, in parallel to the free visit to the exhibition, a series of guided tours will also be organized in which the public will tour the exhibition accompanied by members of the Arte-son Group who during this tour will offer information on the different works, artists participating in this exhibition and about contemporary art in general. These visits will take place on Sundays, August 13 and 27, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. and with the aim of “facilitating the appreciation and understanding of the exhibited works.”
In addition, also as a parallel activity to the exhibition itself, a mural painting workshop will be organized with the aim of “encouraging practical experience in the world of creation”. Those in charge of giving these workshops, which will take place on August 9 and 10 between 11:00 and 13:00, will be the painter Gema Perales and the sculptor Miguel González.
Also within the program of activities organized for the ‘Palacio 16’ exhibition, there will be a gymkhana aimed at children and young people who will be in charge of developing the visual artists Paula Pupo and Ricardo Fernández. The workshop, conceived as a playful activity that helps the youngest to differentiate styles, techniques or volumes, will take place on August 16 and 17 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Likewise, and within the program of this contemporary art exhibition, a small area will also be set up, as a shop, in the hall of the Palace, where small-format works will be offered, “with the intention of making it easier for visitors to acquire of work and with it the initiation in artistic collecting».
