Pakistan’s General Election Defies Expectations as PTI Leads in the Polls

Amid justified cynicism surrounding Pakistan’s general election held on Thursday, the unexpected results have thrown the country’s military authorities off balance. Though historical precedent and recent events suggested the military had an agenda to manipulate the outcome, the vote counting process concluded with leaders from a faction allegedly barred from participating at the helm.

Candidates associated with jailed ex-prime minister Imran Khan’s Movement for Justice (PTI) party have emerged victorious, securing at least 93 seats in Pakistan’s National Assembly.
