Thomas Brönnimann (GLP), Head of the Security and Real Estate Directorate, will step down from the Köniz Municipal Council at the end of 2024. Three people are now running to succeed him.
One of them is GLP politician Thomas Marti. The 53-year-old is currently in the middle of the election campaign – and is doing so in his own unique way.

Marti is not showing his face on election posters as usual, but is advertising with graffiti on sidewalks in places in Bern that attract a lot of people. “Marti machts” and “Politik mit tiefgreifend” are also appropriately written in each case.
Inspired by the street art of the women’s strike
The father of three did not come up with the idea himself. “The idea for the graffiti came from good friends. They then implemented it,” Marti told Nau.ch. “They told me that they were inspired by the street art of the last women’s strike.”
The sidewalk paintings were sprayed with chalk and would then disappear on their own.

One of these graffiti can be seen, for example, at the Hessstrasse bus stop in Liebefeld, as Nau.ch pictures show.
He cannot say where else his friends have sprayed. “I myself have seen graffiti in Liebefeld, Steinhölzli and Köniz,” says the cultural engineer.
Feedback is “great”
The unusual campaign advertising certainly seems to be generating attention. “So far, it’s mainly my friends and acquaintances who have asked me about the graffiti,” says Marti.
And how are they received? “Those who reported it thought the graffiti was great,” said the GLP politician who lives in Köniz, Canton of Bern.

No, doesn’t mean anything to me.
Whether the creativity of those around him will bring Marti into the Köniz municipal council will be revealed on September 22nd. That is when voters will choose Brönnimann’s successor.
