The meeting with Schalke 04 Gelsenkirchen was supposed to be a good test for Górnik Zabrze before the imminent start of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa games, after all, the first match against Radomiak Radom will take place on July 23.
It was known that the team from the 2nd Bundesliga would be a very demanding rival. And so it was. First things first.
From the beginning of the match, Jan Urban’s players put on high pressing, trying to take the ball from Schalke’s players in their half of the pitch. This resulted in a good opportunity for Paweł Olkowski, who in the 2nd minute of the match gave a dangerous shot at the goal of the team from Germany. The hit, however, was minimally off target.
In the following minutes, however, it was the team from the 2nd Bundesliga that was more specific in its attacks. Before the 10th minute of the game passed, and the players of “Die Königsblauen” already had three really dangerous shots on Daniel Bielica’s goal.
In the 14th minute of the meeting, Schalke got its way. Tobias Mohr rushed down the left side of the pitch. He perfectly crossed the ball to Karaman, who was running into the penalty area. And he didn’t give our goalkeeper a chance in a one-on-one situation. The scoreboard was 0-1.
Not much happened on the field after that. Until the 32 minute of the game came. Schalke’s players broke through on the wing again, and Blendi Idrizi used a good cross from the left. It was already 2:0 for rivals from Germany.
After scoring the second goal, Schalke’s team calmed down a bit. There were no more hurricane attacks, but rather calm playing in the own half of the field. The miners tried to bite back, but it was obvious that the players from Germany were faster and more aggressive. They had another dangerous chance towards the end of the first half, but the score remained unchanged at the break.
The beginning of the second half indicated that Schalke players would still be the dominant side, after all, they created the first convenient opportunity. However, Ouadrauogo’s shot was blocked by Janicki.
The 52nd minute is another dangerous action of “Die Königsblauen”. A strong shot from outside the penalty area was scored by Danny Latza, but Bielica behaved well.
In the 63rd minute of the game, the Górniks finally had their chance. Rasak crossed and the ball “screwed” into the goal. It wasn’t long before he scored a goal.
Unfortunately, in the 67th minute of the match, Schalke increased the score to 3:0. Another good cross from the left and another goal. This time Bryan Lasme headed the ball into the net.
72 minutes. Finally, a revival in the Tricolor offensive. Jan Urban’s players pressed their rivals. Sekulic crossed from the right. Rasak reached the rebounded ball, but his shot was blocked.
It was, however, one of the few forays of Zabrze into the opponent’s goal. Schalke players were clearly better in this match. They positioned themselves better, had more freedom in handling the ball. They were also much more effective. In the 79th minute of the game, they scored another goal. Assan Ouedraogo was very active in this match. Górnik – Schalke 0:4.
After that, for 10 minutes on the field, practically nothing happened. Up to 88 minutes. Then the referee awarded a free kick to the team from the 2nd Bundesliga. Soichiro Kozuki approached the ball set at 25 meters and showed off a great shot. Bielica had no chance. The final score is 5-0 for Schalke
It was a painful lesson to learn from. And as soon as possible, because on Sunday, July 16, the Górnik Zabrze team will take part in the Pre Season Cup tournament, in which they will play 45-minute matches against Hannover 96 and FC Koeln.
