Santo Domingo.-Although the date on which it will take effect is not known, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) assured yesterday that it is working to deliver cholera vaccines to the Dominican Republic as soon as possible.
In this sense, Bernardino Vitoy, representative of PAHO/WHO, said that a considerable number of these organics will soon arrive, especially for vulnerable sectors such as La Zurza, where eight cases have already been detected, out of a total of 10 that have been reported registered in the Dominican territory.
Vitoy did not specify a date and quantity because the drug is not widely available globally.
It should be noted that the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends the use of the oral vaccine in combination with other measures, especially interventions related to water, sanitation and hygiene.
new cases of cholera
Although diarrheal symptoms have decreased in the vulnerable area of La Zurza, yesterday the Ministry of Public Health notified two new cases of cholera.
According to the Deputy Minister of Collective Health, Eladio Pérez, they received 20 people with diarrheal disease, of which 13 had traits or symptoms of the disease, which is why they continued to carry out the tests, only these two tested positive.
The new diagnoses correspond to two women in the aforementioned sector, aged 45 and 33 respectively.
He said these patients are already in their homes receiving timely follow-up, as they do not have any kind of health complications.
According to the Minister of Health, Daniel Rivera, the identified cases are due to the active search for suspicious events both in that place and in hospitals through epidemiological surveillance.
Gina Estrella, director of risk management, explained that La Pocita is cleaner, as debris mobilization, pipe cleaning and more have been done in La Pocita.
Cleaning
– Intervention
La Pocita would be restructured by Public Works and the Environment and would result in community members not using the spa for several days. This is feasible because the installation of 20 water tanks in the area has been completed.
