Geneva, May 04 (EFE).- The director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Jarbas Barbosa, stressed today the importance of protecting individual information related to vaccination against covid-19, when asked about the alleged falsification of vaccination data of the former president of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro and some of his relatives.
“I cannot comment on politics in any country, be it Brazil or another. We must maintain neutrality in any situation,” Barbosa, a Brazilian doctor and public health expert, initially responded to questions from journalists.
However, the head of PAHO said that what happened should be investigated.
“I have heard the news and I think it is important to investigate what has happened, but as a general comment I can say that it is important that those responsible protect all vaccination records,” he said.
In a virtual press conference organized by the UN Correspondents Association in Geneva, he added that “individual records must be protected because they are important not only for a person, but for the decisions that the authorities can take.”
The Brazilian Federal Police searched Bolsonaro’s residence yesterday, Wednesday, in an operation related to the alleged manipulation of his vaccination data, several of his relatives and former advisers to obtain permission to enter the United States.
Likewise, it seeks to clarify the actions of an alleged criminal organization accused of including false vaccination data against covid-19 in the systems that collected this information in the Brazilian Ministry of Health.
“In general, health information systems must be protected and never be subject to falsification,” Barbosa emphasized. EFE
