Page from Callendar. It’s been 40 years since the death of Henryk Budziński

Exactly 40 years ago, the bronze medalist of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles and participant of the Warsaw Uprising – Henryk Budziński died. He showed that with hard work, regularity and stubbornness, you can achieve many successes in sport.

Budziński was born on November 29, 1904 in Bobryk. Fleeing the October Revolution, he ended up in the town of Kuibyszew, where he attended a primary school. He returned to Poland only in 1923, where he started his professional career as a construction technician. Before he started rowing professionally, he served his mandatory military service in the 36th Infantry Regiment in Warsaw.

Rowing was Budziński’s passion in life. Unfortunately, poor physical conditions (170 cm, 66 kg) forced him to train very hard. He started his sports career in Poznań, in the Rowing Club 04, which he represented since 1926. Thanks to his diligence and huge ambitions, he became the Polish champion in coxless doubles three times in a row (1929, 1930, 1931). In addition, he won two other titles in 1930 and 1933 in the coxless foursome category. In tandem with Jan Mikołajczak-Krenz won the silver medal at the European Championships in Bydgoszcz in 1929. With the same partner, he became the champion of the Old Continent in the Belgian city of Liege in 1930, and then was honored with the Great Sports Award.
