Electrification is slowly and inevitably reaching all corners of the automotive industry, including supercar manufacturers like Pagani. This company is also working on the development of its electric car, but Pagani representatives still remind us that the batteries are too heavy to achieve the required performance, so we should not expect an electric Pagani in the near future.
“Our goal is to create something that is lightweight. If you look at all our cars, they have a common feature – they are light,” in the interview Top Gear said Christopher Pagani, the son of the company’s founder. He said that the electric car project was started in 2018 and it has not been stopped, but the company does not see the need to rush it, stressing to him that currently Pagani cannot make the kind of electric car that the company and its customers would like.
Although electric car technologies are progressing very rapidly, to create a car with the performance that Pagani customers want, the batteries alone would weigh around 600 kilograms. Although the electric drive provides very good acceleration and high torque, in the case of a supercar it’s not just about maximum speed or acceleration, and large-capacity V-shaped engines can’t complain about acceleration either.
For the time being at least, Pagani will continue to use the Mercedes-AMG-prepared V12 engine, which Pagani engineers are making their own modifications to. The manufacturer does not rule out the possibility of using hybrid technologies in the future, and Pagani wants full clarity on the various rules and laws regarding internal combustion engines in the future.
