Our foodie Johannes Paetzold spent the summer in Berlin. No Riviera, no Greek island. Instead, Johannes brought the island to Berlin. Three personal summer oases on the Spree.
Summer lust cafe
The place exudes magic. Schönhausen Palace Park. Pankow Niederschönhausen district. If you approach the park from Tschaikowskistrasse, the Café Sommerlust is on the left. A small street food cart, with tables and parasols in front. Friendly service. Lentil soup. Broccoli goat cheese quiche. Unusual ice cream flavors with pear and elderberry. Everything small, fine, homemade. The trees, the park, the palace exude peace. And after the café, the park invites you to take a stroll.
Pala Cafe
The Pala – a Greek café on Schönhauser Allee. Until recently, the Pala was in a backyard on Hermannstrasse. Now at a new address. Everything here is authentically Greek. The mocha. The simple lunch, with Melitzana – cooked eggplant. Or sesame ring bread with Favre puree. And of course Greek mountain tea. The Pala is “street”. English and Greek are lingua franca. In the hustle and bustle of Schönhauser Strasse, you have the feeling of sitting in a kafeneion in Thessaloniki.
Private Roof Club
The Private Roof Club is located on the water’s edge between Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg, on the Oberbaum Bridge, and above the “Pirates” restaurant. On the fifth floor, with a view of the Oberbaum Bridge, the Spree, and the boats sailing past. The Private Roof Club is exclusive to companies that maintain business contacts here and hold celebrations for employees. Once a week, on Fridays, the Roof Club becomes a Private Dining Club. Then Hans and his team invite you to a 4-course meal. Important: Book in good time!
