Benin can rejoice in the gains achieved in terms of female leadership and the fight against inequality. As confirmation, the certificates issued on Tuesday October 1, 2024 in Cotonou by the beneficiaries of zones 2 and 3 of the Gender Equality Assistance Program (PAEG1) before Madame Véronique TOGNIFODE, Minister of Social Affairs and Microfinance.
Coming from the southern regions of Benin, the young women who benefited from PAEG1 expressed their satisfaction with having received training that changed their attitude and allowed them to learn tips that promote the development of political leadership, activism and above all to be involved in the management of public power. .
In her opening remarks, Mrs. Valérie IDOSSOU, Team Leader of the UGP/PAEG, pointed out that this session is the second of its kind, after the one held at the beginning of the year in Djougou with – benefit of the North Zone. She specified that the beneficiaries come from several political parties in the country, whether from the movement or the opposition.
“After following some models, I realized we were in the dark. We were taught how to juggle activities and family life without difficulty. Right now, I know how to participate in the elections in my country.” This testimony was given by Firbelle SOHONOU, a political party activist and a beneficiary of the program.
In addition, many other beneficiaries shared with the audience the concepts gained during the sessions with the coaches. Testimonials that gave confidence to the Minister of Social Affairs and Microfinance who congratulated the Program Management Unit and the NGO coalition through which the program is used on the ground.
“As you know, the government of President Patrice TALON has been investing for almost eight years in reducing inequality between men and women in Benin. I am happy to remind you that the reform of the party system in 2019 improved the political environment, by bringing order to this universe and by establishing a little more democracy in the running of political parties,” said the Minister, referring to the extraordinary representation of women in the parliament from the last legislative elections, as well as in several governing bodies of the country Benin, PAEG’s main donor.
Acknowledgment from the Minister that Madame Stéphanie GUHA, deputy head of Swiss Cooperation, welcomes with pleasure and reiterates her commitment to the success of this program.
The PAEG strengthened the capacities of 504 beneficiaries through training and intensive coaching sessions based on four modules: (i) leadership and political communication, (ii) speaking techniques in public, political and private spaces, (iii) tools and strategies for settle a family. , professional and political life, and (iv) conflict management and prevention in social and political environments.
