Criminal proceedings were brought against the owner of PAE Olympiacos, V. Marinaki, of the vice-presidents of PAE, K. Karapapa, D. Agrafiotis, of the president of the Amateur M. Kountouris, as well as against the vice-president and mayor of Piraeus, Yiannis Moralis, yesterday, Tuesday, the day of the 24-hour strike of ESIEA, for the incidents in Rentis and the death of the unfortunate police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis in December 2023, during the Olympiakos-Panathinaikos derby for men’s volleyball.
The offenses that have been attributed to them are misdemeanors and in particular they are, on occasion, those of supporting a criminal organization and inciting sports violence.
After this development, PAE Olympiacos issued a statement in which it states:
“Regarding the summons of a misdemeanor nature, against members of its management, PAE OLYMPIAKOS announces that:
Today’s development, which was announced weeks ago by specific political and business centers, is a new attempt to blackmail PAE OLYMPIAKOS in order to bend both the OLYMPIAKOS family and its President himself.
This development came as a continuation of the unjust mass targeting of our followers as a criminal organization.
Even the most naive can understand that the time chosen is not random. This particular methodology has political characteristics and unfortunately instrumentalizes Justice itself.
Those who operate under parastatal conditions in the public life of the country are responsible for this mess.
The President of PAE Olympiacos and the Olympiacos family have a clear conscience, they are not being blackmailed, they are not bending”
The five men are expected to apologize before the investigator next Tuesday (26/11).

: Thank you for the question. As an elected official, I can assure you that I have always worked in the best interests of my constituents and the community. These charges came as a surprise, and I do believe they are politically motivated. We will defend ourselves vigorously and ensure that the truth is revealed in due course. I trust that justice will prevail and that any perceived political agendas will be set aside for a fair investigation.

Interviewer: Good afternoon to our esteemed guests. Thank you for joining us today on World Today News to discuss the recent criminal proceedings brought against members of PAE Olympiacos management and the mayor of Piraeus. As we all know, these charges stem from the tragic events that took place during the Olympiacos-Panathinaikos derby for men’s volleyball in December 2023. To start us off, Ms. Marinaki, could you please give us your thoughts on the nature of these charges and how they have affected the club as a whole?
Marinaki: Thank you for having us, Interviewer. Yes, we were surprised and disheartened by these charges. However, we believe that they are politically motivated and have no merit. Our club has always been committed to fair play and sportsmanship. We will cooperate fully with the investigations and defend our reputation against these baseless accusations.
Interviewer: Mr. Karapapa, as one of the vice-presidents named in the charges, what is your response to these allegations? Do you feel that there is any truth to them?
Karapapa: Again, thank you for having us. My response is simple – we are innocent. Our club has never condoned violence or illegal activities of any kind. We have always promoted a culture of respect and fair play within our organization. The timing of these charges is particularly concerning, as it seems politically motivated.
Interviewer: Mr. Agrafiotis, as another vice-president named in the charges, how does this development make you feel about the future of PAE Olympiacos? Do you think these allegations will have a lasting impact on the club’s reputation?
Agrafiotis: It’s quite clear that these charges are part of a larger political agenda. We stand behind the statements made by our president and the club. We have nothing to hide and are confident that the truth will come out in the end. As for the club’s reputation, we believe that our fans and supporters understand the situation and know that we are innocent.
Interviewer: Mayor Moralis, as an elected official, how do you respond to these charges? Do you believe that there were political motivations behind them?
