There is only Spain ahead of Italy in padel. This is ensured by the FIP World Padel Report 2024, considered the “Bible” of padel by the International Padel Federation, highlighting our country as the second force in the world, after Spain, in terms of number of facilities, fields, players and padel enthusiasts.
Carlo Ferrara, head of FIP Research & Data Analysis, reports that the country is rapidly approaching 10,000 fields: last June there were 9,300, while three months later they rose to 9,500, with over 1.5 million amateurs practicing and agonists.
Rome is recognized as the cradle of padel in Italy, and never mind if almost pioneering structures were reported in Vicenza as early as 1991. The first field in the capital was born in 2004 at the Aniene rowing club. In 2013 there were just 20 camps in Italy, but since 2015 the growth has been exponential, with a boom starting in 2019. Today in Rome there are over 300 thousand practitioners and almost 500 thousand followers on social media, demonstrating the passion for this sport.
Lazio remains the leading region, currently hosting the Mediolanum Padel Cup in Rome, a tournament with one of the highest prize pools in Italy (15 thousand euros), attracting numerous prominent athletes such as Giulio Graziotti, Chiara Pappacena and Giorgia Marchetti, together with young talents like Alessandro Pirrotta and Matteo Sargolini. With 590 clubs and 1,950 fields, Lazio is followed by Lombardy and Sicily. In Rome and its province alone there are 1,513 camps distributed across 410 structures.
