Pack of cigarettes from today a lot more expensive Money

The smoker will pay an extra euro per pack for cigarettes, and for rolling tobacco this will rise to € 2.40. The increase in excise duties stems from government policy to reduce the unhealthy habit as much as possible.

In January, the packages of tobacco products were also made slightly more expensive. The government plans to increase the price of a pack of cigarettes until it costs ten euros in 2023. This should bring the aim of a smoke-free generation closer to 2040.

Train stations

Apart from the price increase, no tobacco articles will be sold at train stations from Wednesday. Moreover, the NS no longer concludes contracts with tenants who want to sell tobacco at stations.

Because of the strict measures against corona and because the number of train passengers has decreased drastically, only 25 of the 136 kiosks at stations are still open.

With the measure, which was announced some time ago, the rail manager ProRail and NS want to gradually make stations smoke-free. For example, there was already a smoking ban in station halls, lifts and tunnels.

As far as rail manager ProRail is concerned, all smoking facilities on the platforms will also disappear in October. The organization is preparing to remove all smoke poles on the platforms. That’s almost 400.

Schiphol

Schiphol Airport is already taking the step to eliminate such occasions. As of Wednesday, the last smoking areas have also disappeared and the airport is completely smoke-free.

Incidentally, the packs of cigarettes produced up to and including March 31 and which will be in the shops for a while, will keep the same price. There are excise stamps with amounts that applied on the production dates and that may not be changed.
