With a biological created by researchers from the Polytechnic University of Pachuca (UPP), in Hidalgo, tests began on a palm tree about to die with the aim of combating the fungus that is affecting this bush, in addition to regenerating it.
According to Yareth González, a UPP graduate student, the biological has already been tested in crops and has given good results; This is the first time it has been applied to a palm tree.
“We hope to obtain good results, it is a strain that was isolated in 2011, however we have been applying it in the field for about five and six years. I have had the experience of personally applying it to corn crops and we have obtained very good results.”
On the other hand, Miguel Anducho, director of the UPP, explained that the biological is eco-friendly, so it does not cause effects on the population or animals and is applied by spraying.
“What we are trying to do is recover it. I must mention that the product is eco-friendly, it does not cause any harm to humans or animals and for that reason we dare to use it here, in this open part where many people pass by because it has that advantage.” , he said when going to apply the product on the palm tree located on Madero Avenue in Pachuca.
Last year the biological helped to counteract pathogenic fungi in corn crops in the mosquel valley and if the test works in this first palm tree, it is expected that its use can be replicated in other entities, desired the municipal president of Pachuca, Sergio Baños Rubio.
“It can be a pioneering situation so that we can support our brothers in Mexico City right now because of what they are suffering.”
