The natural conditions that have positioned Pacasmayo in the sphere of national and international tourism, has deserved that it can be seen as a strategic point in a revival of tourist activity within the Moche Route, through one of the 8 Liaison Initiatives to Accelerate Innovation – (IVAI) that Peru develops in the same number of regions, as a strategic proposal to strengthen value chains that have great export potential.
The IVAI Tourism, which works in the area of the Moche Route, in the Lambayeque and La Libertad regions, will allow future companies in the sector to have access to the same information, strategic analysis and identification of actions that improve their productive capacities and promote their insertion in more attractive markets that impact competitiveness. To reach this ideal scenario, the team that works with the IVAI Tourism in Lambayeque – La Libertad implements a methodology of the World Bank that is consolidated in the public-private dialogue between academia, industry and the State.
Allison Asencios Fortes, consultant for the SINACYT-PROCIENCIA Service Improvement and Expansion project, a member of the team that develops the IVAI Tourism Lambayeque La Libertad, was in Pacasmayo yesterday morning, participating in one of the meetings with the private sector, collecting the relevant information that allows progress in this process that aims to promote tourism on the Moche route and naturally in Pacasmayo, remaking the sector after the severe blow that the pandemic struck.
THE IVAI TOURISM
Asencios Fortes, in an interview with Últimas Noticias, explained that an IVAI is an initiative that favors innovation in productive activity, a process that is carried out by Concytec, with the support of the World Bank. The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, PromPerú, ITP and the Ministry of Production participate in this initiative.
He pointed out that it seeks to improve the competitiveness of companies.
“The aim is for them to be more profitable, to have greater competitiveness over time through the identification of new strategies, new markets, new products. That entrepreneurs can develop these, and be more competitive over time, “said the consultant.
The IVAI Tourism, identified in La Libertad and Lambayeque, “is going to take place here on the Moche Route. We seek that, with the support of the government, through a joint work of government, companies and academia, new markets and new products can be identified to compete. This initiative is developed using a World Bank methodology, which has produced results in 70 countries and is now being developed in Peru. We developed it with a consulting company, and the funds come from the World Bank. What we do through this methodology is to identify a segment in which we want to compete. Be more profitable and develop different lines of action to be able to compete successfully.
We know that these actions are not going to be short term, but long term. However, you need to have a starting point. And the starting point is now ”, he explained.
He explained that this initiative consists of 3 initial stages that began in March and end in December.
THE STAGES
In the first, tourism was analyzed at a global level; how it is at the national level, and from there see the current situation of tourism. See what condition it is currently in.
The consultant said that, “this first stage ended in a first public meeting. Then came the second stage, in which we have benchmarked (evaluate and analyze processes, products, services) at an international level, to see now, post covid, what are the current trends in tourism. Everything has definitely changed, and from these new trends, to be able to identify the segment in which we want to work in the long term ”.
He added that this second stage was closed with a second public meeting held on September 14. “Now we are starting the third stage, adjusting the strategy. What we have done is to identify 3 areas for improvement from which we are going to define 3 lines of action in order to compete successfully in the segment that we have identified as the explorer segment. What we are going to do at this stage is to meet with the businessmen, we are also going to hold work groups that are the work management tables with the public sector (the State) to be able to define these lines of action in which we are going to work in the long term, and to be able to compete successfully in the segment we want to reach ”.
He indicated that this first part of the IVAI Tourism lasts 6 months. These three stages end with the deliverable of the lines of action to be able to compete in the identified segment. Then comes the implementation.
