Group Chief Corporate Officer and Group General Counsel, PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GoTo), Pablo Malay was recently appointed as the new director of the GoTo Group through the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders on March 2, 2023. Pablo Malay who is also a former lawyer has This track record is quite flashy in the business world.
Pablo joined GoTo in July 2018. After nearly five years managing GoTo fundraising, corporate actions, and relationship with shareholders, he was nominated to return to GoTo’s board of directors when the company announced new directors and board of commissioners to strengthen the organization along with accelerated plans towards profitability.
“I first met Andre (Soelistyo, CEO of GoTo) even before he joined Gojek. At that time, he was my client, and we worked together to achieve corporate actions. After he became part of Gojek, he invited me to join, ” said Pablo in a written statement, Thursday (25/5/2023).
Pablo brings with him 14 years of experience in international law firms, where he is a specialist in large-scale corporate actions such as mergers, acquisitions and financing especially for large companies from Indonesia.
At GoTo, he quickly established himself as an expert at executing key corporate actions within the company. Working mostly behind the scenes, he led a series of fundraising from Series F to Pre-IPO to the stock exchange, raising a total of around US$ 5 billion for Gojek and GoTo.
Apart from major corporate actions, he also provides input for GoTo’s business development. The input provided is not only from a legal perspective and compliance with regulations, but from a commercial aspect.
“By working at GoTo, I take part in providing solutions to the problem of unemployment, as well as the low level of financial inclusion in Indonesia. I was born and raised in Indonesia. Now is my time to contribute,” he said.
He is also one of the core figures in the Gojek-Tokopedia merger process in 2021, the big decision that gave birth to GoTo which then successfully listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in April 2022.
Pablo said that GoTo’s initial public offering (IPO) was the proudest achievement in his career with GoTo to this day.
“GoTo is a very important digital ecosystem in Indonesia, which plays a major role in the daily lives of many people in Indonesia. I am honored to have been given the opportunity to bring progress to GoTo in terms of innovation and achieving profitability so that we can provide even more services for customers, partners drivers, as well as trading partners,” he said.
