Pablo Escobar’s son: “Many young people want to be like my dad” for the Netflix series

Santiago, Chile . The son of the late Colombian drug lord, Pablo Escobar, lamented that many young people still want to be like his father after watching Netflix series like the one dedicated to his life.

Sebastián Marroquín harshly criticized the “narcoculture” extolled according to him by the media and series such as “El patrón del mal” on the Netflix platform, after accepting the invitation to Chile made by the Council for Transparency and the municipality of La Florida , in Santiago.

“Today Pablo Escobar, 30 years after his death, generates more news than when he was alive,” said Marroquín, at a conference in the Chilean capital, at a time when an increase in organized crime activities in the country was reported.

Product of what he described as a glorification of criminal activity and the character of Pablo Escobar, today “many young people write to me saying: I saw the movie, I saw the series and I want to be like your dad.”

Sebastián Marroquín adopted that identity at the age of 16, when he and his family took refuge in Buenos Aires after the death of Pablo Escobar, late head of the Medellín cartel killed by Colombian security forces in 1993.

In the capital of Argentina he settled with his mother, María Isabel Santos, and his sister. He studied architecture and design and dedicates a large part of his time to exposing what he considers to be the real image of Pablo Escobar, and not the one shown in the series.

“My father should not be portrayed as a success story, because he was never able to enjoy anything,” he said.

“I feel much richer than my father, because I am a free man,” added Marroquín, while saying that today he is friends with most of the children of drug traffickers who were enemies of his father and that he has asked for forgiveness. hundreds of their victims.

Asked about some recommendation to overthrow drug trafficking, Marroquín was in favor of regularizing the consumption of substances. “All that prohibition machinery has created this context,” he said.
