Ozzy Osbourne will undergo an operation next Monday (June 13) that “will determine the rest of his life,” reports his wife and manager, Sharon Osbourne.
Sharon revealed the news on her UK show The Talk (not affiliated with the US show of the same name from which she was kicked out last year), telling her fellow panelists: “[Ozzy] He has a very important operation on Monday, and I have to be there. He’s really going to determine the rest of his life.” He added that he would fly back to Los Angeles to be by Ozzy’s side.
Although Sharon didn’t go into detail, Ozzy himself mentioned late last year that he needed one more operation on his neck after the previous surgeon “screwed it up.” The metal icon was injured in a 2019 fall at his home, dislodging metal rods that were inserted after a 2003 quad accident.
In a more recent interview with Classic Rock, Ozzy reiterated that he needed the additional neck surgery, saying, “I can’t walk properly these days. I do physical therapy every morning. I’m a little better, but not even close to what I want to get back on the road.”
Ozzy has faced a myriad of health issues over the years. In addition to falling out with her, she revealed in early 2020 that she was battling Parkinson’s disease, and recently, Sharon revealed that her Ozzy contracted COVID-19, adding that she was “very concerned” due to his pre-existing conditions. she. She later reported that Ozzy was “doing much better and recovering.”
Between his health problems and the pandemic, Ozzy has been unable to resume his “No More Tours 2” farewell tour, which began in 2018. For the time being, he is scheduled to embark on the European and British leg of the tour, at often postponed, to early 2023.
In the meantime, Ozzy has been keeping busy in the studio, releasing the solo album Ordinary Man in 2020, and reteaming with that LP’s producer, Andrew Watt, for an as-yet-untitled follow-up that he recently completed. The upcoming album features appearances by Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi, Zakk Wylde, Chad Smith, Josh Homme, Mike McCready, Robert Trujillo, and the late Taylor Hawkins, among others.
We wish the Prince of Darkness a very successful surgery and a speedy and full recovery!
