“This is probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to share with my loyal fans. As you may all know, four years ago this month I was in a serious accident that damaged my spine.” wrote seventy-four-year-old Ozzy at the beginning of his declarationwhich he posted on Facebook.
He added that although his voice is in perfect order, his body does not allow him to rage on stage like before. “After three surgeries, stem cell treatments, endless physical therapy sessions, and most recently a breakthrough cybernetics treatment, my body is still physically weak,” the singer described, saying he was moved by how long and patiently fans held onto their tickets.
“With a clear conscience I have now come to the realization that I am physically unable to undertake the upcoming European/UK tour as I know I would not be able to cope with the travel required. Trust me when I say that the thought of letting my fans down really freaks me out more than you can imagine.” Ozzy wrote. Fans won’t even see him in Prague’s O2 arena, where he was supposed to arrive on May 19, 2023 after delays.
Thanks for allowing me to live a life I never dreamed possible
At the end of his emotional letter to his fans, the Prince of Darkness wrote that he never imagined that his concert days would end like this. “My team is currently figuring out where I can perform without having to travel from city to city and country to country,” he added.
“I want to thank my family, my band, my crew, my longtime friends, Judas Priest and of course my fans for their endless devotion, loyalty and support and for allowing me to live a life I never dreamed possible. I love you all” the heavy metal icon closed one chapter of his life.
Ozzy talked about his health problems to the newspaper in August The Guardian. He revealed, for example, that two metal plates that had been screwed into his spine during an earlier operation were removed during an operation in June. But the recovery did not go according to plan. In 2003, Ozzy was also diagnosed with degenerative Parkinson’s disease. It is this that causes him to be unable to stand firmly on his feet and has to use a cane when walking.
