Mesut Ozil got to Barcelona before finally joining Real Madrid. However, Oezil changed his mind because of his indifference Pep Guardiola.
This story happened in 2010. After performing well with the German national team at the 2010 World Cup, Ozil became the target of several top European clubs, including Barcelona and Madrid.
Ozil revealed that he had visited the Barcelona training center. The Turkish-blooded player feels confident that he will suit the Blaugrana’s style of play.
However, Guardiola’s ‘cold’ attitude made Oezil change his mind. Oezil ultimately preferred to join Madrid because he felt he was being fought for more.
“The visit to Barcelona lacked enthusiasm and what is more disappointing is that Pep Guardiola did not try to meet me,” Ozil told Marca.
“Before that trip, I really liked Barcelona’s style of football and I could totally imagine playing with them, but Madrid went all out.”
“So Jose Mourinho is without a doubt the most important factor in my decision. After my visit, my decision is 100 per cent clear: I want to be a Madridista,” Ozil said.
Mesut Oezil then strengthened Real Madrid in 2010/2013 and won three trophies with Los Blancos. Ozil recently decided to hang up his boots at the age of 34.
