Özcan Akyol himself does not feel that he misses things during the corona crisis. In conversation with VIVA tells the presenter and writer that he normally does not have a social life either.
“Around me I see that people are having a hard time because of the corona crisis and everything that has been closed. I care about that, but I actually don’t miss anything. I’ve been in my own lockdown all my life,” Akyol explains.
The presenter of Stars on the Canvas in Eus’ Book Club admits that he is not good at maintaining social contact. “At some point you know that and you choose not to make new friendships. That’s safer, because I always get disappointed.”
It is therefore no effort for him to combine his busy career with raising two children. “I don’t have a social life, so I’m either at home or at work. There are no more flavors.”
The presenter was pointed out by his girlfriend Anna van den Breemer that he spoiled the children too much, because he was overcompensating for his own childhood, in which he had no father who was there for him. Akyol felt that he should give his children everything and always be there for them. Van den Breemer told him that he did not have to be ‘300 percent father’.
“Those were times when I slowly realized that you shouldn’t go crazy in wanting to be the perfect father. When I come home from work at midnight, it’s not immediately emotional neglect. As long as they know I’m coming back, there’s nothing. going on.”
