It reports Bergensavisen which cites safe sources in the 2nd division club.
According to what NRK knows, the players were informed in a meeting on Friday.
– It was completely quiet. It came as a shock. We were sure that there was positive news, then you will be served the worst possible scenario, says midfielder Andreas Fantoft.
Hoping for a solution
The club has a debt of 5.8 million kroner, and last week applied to the municipality for an interest-free loan that corresponds to up to half of the debt.
The local politicians said that the application lacked an operational and financial plan for how the money should be used, and a plan for repayment of the loan. They turn their thumbs down.
Thus lir top football bets same fate as Fotballklubben Lyn in 2010.
Øygarden is missing the club 3 million to make it out of the season.
Nor have the sponsors of the club gone in with more funds, according to Bergens Tidende.
– On Wednesday we got the right that there should be a meeting with the business community, and we had hope that it would work out. We did not believe in bankruptcy, says Fantoft.
Everyone is released from the contract
He is one of 18 players who hope for the longest time that discussions with major players in local business would save the club. Now all employees are released from the contracts with the club.
– We do not know what is happening. We are without a contract, but do not know what the regulations say about new clubs, or whether we must follow the transition window, he says.
Øygarden FK took over the 1st division license and the top series commitment to Idrettslaget Nest-Sotra after the 2019 season. The latter has continued as its own broad club and has teams in both children and youth class.
– We feel incredible pity in the coaches Tommy and Kjetil Knarvik who have made a fantastic effort for Øygarden FK. They did not deserve this, adds Fantoft.
Must follow transition windows
Krinsleiar Tore-Christian Gjelsvik thinks the news from Ågotnes is sad to get at the beginning of the weekend.
– Even though the club is new, it is a traditional club that has been around for many years and has played in the upper part of Norwegian top football. It’s an incredible sin, he says.
– We not only miss perhaps the fourth best club in Hordaland, but an entire environment and arena that is important for recruitment upwards in the system, he adds.
Most people who play in the 2nd division have professional contracts, and must follow the transfer window which only opens on 1 August. If they switch to an amateur contract, the quarantine period is one month.
– I think the chances are great for the players to find new clubs. It is probably worse for the coaches, Gjelsvik adds.
Ørn-Horten is waiting for an answer
Board chair Marianne Bjorøy writes in an SMS to NRK that the board is meeting. According to Bergensavisen, this meeting took place at 4.30 pm.
Actually, the club was to play a match against Ørn-Horten on Saturday. In addition to the league matches in the 2nd division, Øygarden was set up with an away match against Sotra in the 2nd round of the NM Cup.
These campaigns will now be nothing.
Neither Saturday’s referees nor sports leader Atle Hovde in Ørn-Horten had heard anything from the club or association at 7 pm on Friday.
– So we pretend as if it will be a fight. We have had a player meeting and are conducting a final training session no. The plane leaves early tomorrow, he says to NRK.
- In an earlier version, NRK wrote that Øygarden played in the 1st division last year. The right thing is that they played 2nd division last year as well.
