Oxygen supply Indonesian submarine on, but there is still no trace

The submarine disappeared on Wednesday during an exercise north of Bali. At that time there was still enough oxygen on board to last until early this morning.

“We are doing everything we can to find him before the crucial 3am border,” said an Indonesian general yesterday. That border passed late last night, Dutch time.

600 to 700 meters

The submarine may have sunk to a depth of 600 to 700 meters, deeper than what the 44-year-old KRI Nanggala 402 was made for. The submarine had requested permission to dive and then contact was lost.

The Australian frigate HMAS Ballarat and an American Boeing P-8 Poseidon arrived in Indonesia today to join the dozens of Indonesian ships already searching for the lost submarine.

Later in the day, the arrival of a rescue ship from Singapore is also expected, and help is also coming from Malaysia and India.

A search team has detected an oil slick from a helicopter where the submarine was last located. Whether there is a connection with the disappearance of the submarine is still unclear.
