owners of small gardens could be given a place elsewhere

He said that the football stadium itself is not planned to be built in the place where the gardens are currently located, but the development of the connecting infrastructure may affect the users of the gardens.

At the same time, the mayor of Riga emphasized that this is by no means new, as the development of Lucavsala and the construction of new streets have been marked in the plans of the capital for several decades.

“Obviously it can have an impact [mazdārziņus]. We can talk about different balancing mechanisms, somewhere else, let’s say, giving people space for these little gardens,” ķirsis allowed.

He emphasized that it was Lucavsalu that was recognized by experts as the best place for the construction of a new football stadium after a thorough evaluation.

As reported, the association of family gardens “Kazas sēklis” calls on the Riga City Council to review the initiative to build a football stadium in Lucavsala, according to a letter prepared by the association to the members of the Riga City Council.

The letter states that there are 326 gardens in Kaza Seki, which are essential for their owners and tenants for growing food, educating children, as well as for other recreational activities. At the same time, the authors of the letter do not hide the fact that some of the gardens in Kaza sēki have not been cleaned, but the demand for the area has recently increased and almost all land units are managed.

It has already been reported that on April 2, at the meeting of the City Property Committee of Riga City Council, a draft decision was supported on the transfer of a ten-hectare plot of land for free use for five years to the Latvian Football Federation (LFF) for the construction of a national football stadium in Lucavsala.

The final decision on the allocation of land for free use by LFF will have to be made by the Riga City Council.
