Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Hundreds of Tesla car owners go wild showroom companies in China. This happened because the company owned by billionaire Elon Musk cut prices for their types of cars.
The protesters were owners of Model Y and Model 3 cars. About 200 people demanded an extra bonus. The reason is that the price of Tesla cars is now much lower than the purchase price they issued, quoted by Business Insider, Monday (9/1/2023).
Several videos showing the protests have been released. For example videos Reuters showing a protest at a Tesla store in Chengdu. The truth about the location of the video has been verified, but the date is uncertain.
The video released on Saturday also shows a protest allegedly at a retail outlet in Xiaoshan. Several people were seen yelling and one person was holding up a placard. However, there has been no confirmation that the crash actually took place at that location.
Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
For three months, Tesla is known for cutting the price of its products twice. Business Insider notes that prices are 13% to 24% lower than in September.
The price reduction even makes car prices in China much cheaper than in the United States (USA). Second Bloomberg, the price can be up to 43% cheaper.
In addition to China, Tesla has also cut prices in Japan, South Korea and Australia. A source a Reuters, said the goal of the price cut was to stimulate demand to purchase vehicles built at the company’s largest factory.
This price cut isn’t just happening at Tesla. Rivian did the same thing last year, due to an increase in supply chain costs. This discount also applies to those who pre-ordered.
