‘Own’ corona test street in Zwolle offers a solution for teachers and students

Eight MBO and HBO schools in Zwolle have their own corona test street for teachers since Monday afternoon. Teachers are not given priority at regular test streets, so they often have to wait a long time. This is different at the Zwolle test street: within half an hour a teacher knows whether he has or has had the corona virus.

“We have been open since yesterday,” says Jan-Ernst van Driel, director of the Deltion College. “Twenty people have already registered today.” Although many classes are taught online, this does not apply to all classes, says Van Driel. “And we want to have as many people as possible available for those classes.”

Harry van den Brink is one of the teachers who will be tested on Tuesday. “I have a bit of a cold, have a little bit of a throat problem and I’m also a bit shivery,” explains Van den Brink. “I discussed with my director whether I could go to the test street, and that was agreed.”

The ‘own’ test street is not only nice for the teachers, the test street is also suitable for students. Ultimately, ninety students can do an internship. Marieke is one of them, she is doing a higher vocational education as a nurse. “We practiced all day yesterday,” she explains. “I also had a test myself to feel what it is like. Then, under supervision, we tested each other to see if we were in the right place. ”

“The test we are doing is a double test,” explains Van Driel. “We can determine whether someone has had corona and how he or she is still contagious. This is done by drawing blood and some mucus from the throat. Fortunately, we don’t need the rod in the nose here. ”

The test street uses a new way of testing that has recently been approved by RIVM. “They have a sufficient degree of reliability to be able to deploy here,” says Van Driel. “It is collected and read here on the spot. It’s a kind of pregnancy test: one line shows whether the test was successful, the second line whether someone is positive or not. Within half an hour, someone has the test result and walks outside again. ”

There is good news for Harry van den Brink. “Tested negative, no corona, so positive news. I am a bit feverish, so I have to watch out for myself. ”
