Owl found in Rockefeller Center Christmas tree in New York

A worker helping to put the Christmas tree in the Rockefeller CenterIn New York, he found a surprise: a little owl among the huge branches.

The bird, now called Rockefeller, what other name could it be? was discovered Monday, dehydrated and hungrybut unharmed, said Ellen Kalish, director and founder of the Ravensbeard Wildlife Center in Saugerties, New York, where the owl was flown.

It is an adult male owl from the northern sierra (Saw-whet), one of the smallest around, said Kalish. He was taken to a vet on Wednesday and the vet ruled he is healthy.

“He’s already eaten a buffet with no mouse restrictions, so he’s ready to go.”, he pointed.

He said the plan was to release him this weekend in his natural habitat..

The tree, a 75-foot-tall Norwegian spruce, was moved to Manhattan on Saturday from Oneonta, New York, in the central part of the state.
