Owens Illinois invests 60 million euros in the Vosges

Owens Illinois Manufacturing (OI Manufacturing), world leader in glass manufacturing, recently decided to invest sixty million euros in Gironcourt-sur-Vraine, near Châtenois, in the Vosges. About sixty people will be hired.

This is excellent news for the economy of the Plaine des Vosges. The American manufacturer of beer bottles Owens Illinois Manufacturing is building a third furnace to increase its production capacity at its Gironcourt-sur-Vraine site, which specializes in making beer bottles for the Kronenbourg plant in Obernai, in the Bas- Rhine. The American group, which has 80 factories and employs more than 27,000 people worldwide, has been looking for a long time to increase its capacities in Europe. In competition with a Czech factory, it was ultimately the Vosges site that won the bid.

The new production line is expected to start next spring. It will make Gironcourt-sur-Vraine the first factory for glass beer bottles in Europe. Almost one in two glass bottles sold worldwide is manufactured by OI Manufacturing or one of its subsidiaries. The global giant mainly produces bottles of beers, but also wines, spirits, non-alcoholic drinks and food. Founded in 1903, its Gironcourt-sur-Vraine factory currently manufactures 1.2 billion glass bottles per year in two ovens and employs nearly 450 people.
