Owendo:A bridge to improve traffic flow Owendo:A bridge to improve traffic flow

Libreville, Friday February 16, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – The commissioning of this infrastructure connecting the quay of the NOIP zone port to the terminal of the Gabon Port Management zone will facilitate the movement of containers through this port.

As part of its desire to support Gabon in the development and modernization of port infrastructure, Owendo Container Terminal (OCT) yesterday Wednesday inaugurated a bridge connecting the old and new ports. The concessionaire of the container terminal of the port of Owendo has just commissioned this infrastructure at a cost of 2 billion F in order to streamline the transport of containers in this port area. This achievement is the culmination of an agreement signed on August 11, 2022 with the Port Authority, the Gabon Ports and Roads Office (OPRAG) and the company Gabon Port Management (GPM) with the aim of guaranteeing the safety of goods and resolve traffic flow problems.

This bridge should allow the Customs Administration to place container activity at docks and terminals under the control of a single customs office. In order to facilitate the task of customs brokers and to strengthen control at entry and exit from the terminal. “This new bridge between the historic installations and the latest infrastructure of the container terminal is part of OCT’s desire to guarantee the best standards to various users and shipowner customers. It leads to numerous operational improvements in terms of security of goods, fluidity of traffic at the port, simplification of administrative procedures, while reducing the impact of the activity on the environment. This achievement is a new concrete expression of our active contribution to the growth and economic development of Gabon,” underlined Laurent Goutard, general manager of Owendo Container Terminal.

Beyond the simple flow of traffic on both sides, the construction of this bridge takes into account the environmental impact through the Green Terminal label by Bureau Veritas. Owendo Container Terminal aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by more than 300 tonnes annually.

A subsidiary of Africa Global Logistics Gabon, OCT is positioning itself as a major player in the logistics chain in Gabon. It employs 300 Gabonese people directly and generates nearly a thousand others indirectly.
