Overwhelming Success: Pokémon GO City Safari Sparks Fervor in Mexico City

Mexico City, November 21, 2023.- During November 4 and 5, Trainers in Mexico City experienced the first Pokémon GO City Safari in Latin America. More than 30 thousand participants from 30 countries embarked on an adventure to capture Pokémon and join a special investigation. Tickets were previously sold out, leading Niantic to release more tickets for Sunday.

The Trainers enjoyed 5 activations in parks such as Parque Hundido, Parque Lincoln and Glorieta Pdte. Masaryk, spinning more than 5 million PokéStops and carrying out nearly 180 thousand raids. The city was decked out in advertising displays, hand-painted signs and decorated bus shelters, encouraging participation and enthusiasm.

Niantic organized a VIP tour in an open-top bus, visiting activation points with employees, strategic partners and media representatives. Trainers captured 6.8 million Pokémon, traded more than 27 thousand, and participated in special events.

Life-size Pokéstops were installed in the Miguel Hidalgo mayor’s office, also serving as charging centers. As a thank you, Niantic will be in charge of maintaining the benches on Masaryk Avenue. Players interacted in decorated 7-Eleven stores, participating in a stamp rally.

Pokémon GO was integrated into the Day of the Dead with the Mexicranio in front of the Angel of Independence. The lights of the Monumental Skull changed depending on the team controlling the Gym. The entries included bonuses such as double the amount of Candy and a reduction in the distance to hatch Eggs, achieving the hatching of more than 121 thousand eggs and the exchange of nearly 188 thousand gifts.

Alan Mandujano, Head of Latin America at Niantic, highlighted the success of the event. With the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Duskull visors and Pokémon GO stickers were delivered in tourist modules. Hotel occupancy increased on average 5.5 points, contributing to the development of the hotel sector.
