KIEV – The Ukrainian government has requested a number of air defense systems minigun C-RAM in the United States (USA) after being swept away by the Russian attack with drone Kamikaze allegedly produced in Iran.

The request for help was revealed in a letter signed by the President of the Ukrainian Parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk and seen by ABC news.

Stefanchuk wrote to senior members of the US Congress, calling for weapons to protect important objects, especially critical power plants.

Raytheon’s Phalanx Weapons Systems (LPWS) are the US Army’s version of the Navy’s point defense weapon, commonly known as the Counter-Rocket, Artillery, Mortar (C-RAM) system.

The LPWS is mounted on a mobility trailer. The US military has used it to protect high-value targets, such as its embassies in places like Baghdad and Kabul, from incoming mortar and rocket attacks.

Although the Pentagon declined to comment on Ukraine’s specific request, the US military said it is focusing on equipment relevant to the ongoing battle.

“We are working around the clock to meet Ukraine’s priority security assistance requests, delivering weapons from US stocks as they become available,” Pentagon spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Garron Garn told reporters. ABC newslaunched on Wednesday (9/11/2022).

On Monday, Ukraine announced the receipt of two NASAMS air defense systems. Another six were promised by Washington last August, but it will take some time to get to Kiev.
