Overwatch updates and adds cross-play between consoles and PC

As Blizzard had finally anticipated last week enabled the cross-play feature in Overwatch, five years after its original release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox.

New feature allows PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and PC users to face off on various playlists, with a few exceptions, such as Competitive Mode. In the latter case, to guarantee the balance of the games due to differences in control, console players will only face other console players, and PC players only PC players.

Update forces all Overwatch users to create a Battle.net account (Blizzard’s proprietary service) and link your console accounts to the service. While it will be possible to choose not to crossmatch, account creation and linking will be necessary to continue playing the game.

“All console players will need to create a Battle.net account and link it to their console account (Xbox, PSN, Nintendo)”, explains the company in the official announcement. “PC gamers don’t need to go through this step because they already have a Battle.net account. After launching the game, you will be prompted to link your console account to a Battle.net account. “

In any case, it is not advisable to disable cross-play, because in this case the user will be paired with others on the platform who have chosen that option, significantly limiting the number of available players.

In addition to the new feature, Today’s update includes a new challenge – Ashe’s Deadlock Challenge., which rewards a player icon, seven sprays, and the Ashe Deadlock skin.

Overwatch is available on all consoles and PCs, and Blizzard continues to work on Overwatch 2, which will offer a single player campaign for the first time and will change the number of participants of the teams from the current six to five.
