The purpose of this meeting is to review the most significant events of each of the weeks of competition of theOverwatch League 2021 as well as our main expectations for the upcoming matches. Today we come back to the eleventh week of competition.
After a short week’s break, we had the pleasure of meeting our favorite teams for this eleventh week of Overwatch League which marks the start of placement matches for the third tournament of the season: the Summer Showdown. This one should bring us new surprises since there will be no Hero Pool during the coming weeks to come, allowing the teams to adopt different compositions.
On the West Division side, three teams already stand out with two wins in their two games played. Thus, the Boston Uprising, the Toronto Defiant and the Paris Eternal are at the top of the standings and could very well be part of the automatically qualified teams for the tournament, allowing them to escape the playoff games which will begin in two weeks. And it’s hard to hide your joy when seeing the return of Paris Eternal.
Indeed, after the total replacement of the team’s players, it was obvious that they had to learn to play together in order to create a synergy that would lead them to victory. It seems that this is finally the case and the Parisian team is finally starting to recover to offer us quality matches against London Spitfire and Los Angeles Gladiators. However, the latter do not represent the greatest danger of the season and their next matches will be decisive for their future in this Summer Showdown.
As for the East Division, the Seoul Dynasty remains at the top of the standings. However, the New-York Excelsior, who had managed to reach the June Joust tournament weekend games, are coming back with a vengeance. But nothing is won for them since they will have the difficult task of facing Hangzhou Spark and Philadelphia Fusion in their last two placement matches. All these teams will have to redouble their efforts to hope to do better than the Shanghai Dragons, winners of the previous tournament.
Our expectations for the coming weeks of the Overwatch League
The next competition weekend will shake up the ranking already established since all the teams will have played their first placement match. If we are very confident on the course of Paris Eternal during this tournament, they will have to succeed in defeating the Vancouver Titans as well as the San Francisco Shock on Friday. Although the Bay team are two-time world champions, this season promises to be more difficult than ever for them, leading us to believe that the Parisian team could pull off a clear run for the Summer Showdown.
The Shanghai Dragons, meanwhile, will face two of the best teams in the division as we can attend the game against the Seoul Dynasty on Saturday, and the one against the Philadelphia Fusion on Sunday. In addition, with the absence of the Hero Pool for the tournament, players will be able to choose their favorite heroes, which will provide us with a great show for the next competition weekend of l’Overwatch League 2021.
