Overwatch 2 developer revealed that the gender of the new hero ‘Venture’ revealed at BlizzCon is non-binary. Non-binary refers to a person with a sexual identity that rejects the existing binary gender distinction, and when referring to them, ‘they’ is used rather than ‘he/she’.
Overwatch 2 technical artist Ana Martinez explained on her personal Twitter (X) that Venture is a non-binary character. When some users asked about the background of the two newly revealed characters, Ana responded that she could not reveal details such as nationality or nickname. She responded that, however, she should refer to the venture’s personal pronouns as ‘they/them’.

If released with this setting maintained, Venture will become Overwatch 2’s first non-binary character. The sexual minority characters released so far in Overwatch include Soldier, Tracer, Pharah, Baptiste, and Lifeweaver. None of them were non-binary.
On the official Overwatch forum, there is already a debate going on about the character. However, since gender identity settings were not added to existing characters like Soldier, Pharah, or Tracer, negative opinions are limited to ‘why only emphasize gender when the background story was not properly revealed?’ Other opinions are that gender is not important and that they are only curious about the drill and attack method used by the venture.
