Overturned train near Mariánské Lázně: The driver received a warning on a tablet where he did not read it

“The immediate cause was exceeding the maximum permitted speed by 61 km / h, which occurred due to the fact that the driver did not know about the speed reduction on the line and did not find it when monitoring the line, even though he had all the necessary information,” said Railway Inspector Jan Curl.

As the accused train driver said to Práva some time ago, he returned that day from a 14-day vacation. He had not been on the track for half a year and had no idea that construction work was taking place there.

“I carefully studied all the changes at the starting station. The warning of speed reduction was not even in the written driving order, which lists all temporary restrictions, I did not find it in the so-called book of normals, through which the employer warns us, among other things, about track sections with permanent changes, “described Radim R. in an interview with reporter Rights.

He received the information

The Railway Inspectorate states in its Tuesday report that the driver was informed via a tablet, but did not read the information. In addition, he overlooked a signal with a reduced speed of 30 km / h. The driver admitted that he had overlooked the so-called forerunner on the line.

In this context, the Railway Inspectorate pointed out that the carrier had allowed the driver to enter the line without being sure that he was aware of important changes.

“A major speed reduction of 65 km / h has been signaled on the line by only one signal, which the Railway Inspectorate considers to be a weakness of the whole speed reduction solution, especially if no technical solution is in place on the line to prevent the driver from actively interfering with the train. allowed speed and, ultimately, derailment, “Kučera explained.

According to the inspection, the driver should not have been informed only by some tables, but by a written order. In addition, track-side inspectors would expect other safety features, such as repetitive lights.

The accident happened at the end of last July in Chodová Planá. The driver drove a freight train consisting of two electric traction locomotives and seventeen wagons for the transport of bulk materials in the direction of travel from Chodová Planá to the Mariánské Lázně railway station. There was a derailment in the turn due to high speed. The Railway Inspection estimated the damage at 28 million crowns.
