Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan wants to continue on Tuesday with the protest march in Islamabad that he recently traveled. He was supposed to arrive in the capital on Friday, but on Thursday he was shot about 190 kilometers from Islamabad. Khan was not seriously injured. He was shot in the right shin.
Today, sitting in a wheelchair at the hospital, he talked about the attack and his further plans for the march. He reiterated that he is conducting an independent investigation the shooting want. Three government and defense officials he believes were involved in the attack must resign from him, he also said again.
The prime minister, deposed in April, and his followers have been marching since October 28. They are calling for early elections for the current Prime Minister, Sharif, but he still plans to hold the ballot over the next year.
‘Sea of people’
Thirteen people were injured in Thursday’s attack. Partly due to the shooting, but also due to previous violent incidents during the protests, concerns over Pakistan’s political stability are growing. Political killings have been committed several times in the country’s recent history.
Khan’s intention is now for the protest march to continue on Tuesday. Within ten to fifteen days he wants to arrive with his procession in Rawalpindi, where other groups will also join the Prime Minister and his supporters. From there, he promises the former prime minister and former cricket star, he will lead “a sea of people” to Islamabad.
