Overtaking over the hard shoulder and other dangerous antics of Mercedes and Porsche on E17 | Inland

A Porsche and a Mercedes pass a car in the left lane on the right, but that’s not all. Moments later, the Mercedes dashes from the left lane to the hard shoulder to overtake everything and everyone again. The Porsche then again overtakes a car from the right.

Driving on the right is mandatory in our country. This means that you must always use the right-hand lane on the highway if it is free. If you are driving on a three-lane highway, you are not allowed to continue driving in the third lane when the second is free.

You are only allowed to overtake on the left, although there are exceptions. On the highway you can choose a lane when there is slow traffic. Within built-up areas you can choose your lane “that best corresponds to your destination”, so that, for example, you can keep driving on the left if you have to turn left further on. Of course you do not have to keep to the right when you have to turn left, and it is also not mandatory to drive as right as possible on a square or roundabout.
