Cooper Rush threw a touchdown pass and Dowdle finished with 112 yards for the Cowboys, who ended a six-game losing streak at home.
Drew Lock, who got the start in place of the injured Tommy DeVito, fumbled the ball and was the victim of six sacks in addition to throwing an interception that turned into a touchdown.
Lock ran for 57 yards and a touchdown afterward, but it was too late. The Giants (2-10) suffered a seventh straight loss this season and an eighth in a row against the Cowboys.
“It was one of the first times I was able to play a full game with these guys and show them what I can do,” Lock said. Aside from the turnovers and a few other things, it was up and down. Good and bad.”
“I don’t like the result,” said Giants head coach Brian Daboll. Nobody likes the results. But once again, I have confidence in my players. We just have to do better.”
The Giants held their first lead since Week 5 before Overshown’s interception gave the Cowboys the lead for good in the second quarter.
With the Giants leading 7-6, Lock attempted a short pass to Devin Singletary, but Overshown got his hands on the ball and raced into the end zone, untouched.
“I thought, ‘Hey, this is a good time to get those jet engines going,'” said Overshown, who missed his rookie season with a knee injury. I was able to activate them, and we danced in the end zone afterwards.
It was also Overshown who recovered the ball dropped by Lock on the first offensive sequence for the Giants in the third quarter. Rush immediately connected with Brandin Cooks on two yards for the touchdown.
“Before the game, I was thinking, this time last year I was just waiting to show everyone what I could do,” Overshown added. Just being on the field healthy is all I can ask for.”
The Cowboys thus won a second game in a row after suffering five consecutive losses.
“We just needed that win last week, to shake things up, to feel that feeling of victory in the locker room after the game,” Rush said of Washington’s 34-26 win. Everything is falling into place, I feel good.”
Rush, who is now 2-2 this season as a starter, completed 21 of 36 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown.
Cooks, who got a first try thanks to a nice catch in the last two minutes of play to seal the outcome of the duel, was playing his first match since the fourth week of the campaign.
