Part of the overpass collapsed on the road near the town of Devnya, in the area of the largest soda plant in Bulgaria.

An excavator truck knocked down part of the reinforced concrete structure as it passed under it. One of the slabs crashed into a car moving behind the truck. Two people were injured in the incident – women aged 41 and 61, Devnya Mayor Svilen Shitov told NOVA. Special teams spent hours conducting an operation to remove one of the wounded from the car.

“Around 9.10 am a signal was received for an accident on the road Suvorovo – Devnya,” explained Petko Kamburov, head of the Traffic Police Sector – Varna.
The case was handled by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Varna. From there they report that the work on the pre-trial proceedings continues under the direction and supervision of the Territorial Department – Devnya. The reasons that led to the serious accident are being clarified. Many experts are to be appointed.
