Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir carried out a transformation in the body of PT PLN (Persero). In the future, Erick Thohir will form a holding and sub-holding within the state-owned electricity company.
Erick said that currently for the formation of the holding and sub holding, PLN is looking for benchmarking from Korea, Italy, France, to Malaysia. However, in the future, with the existence of a sub-holding, PLN will focus on managing electricity transmission.
“From the benchmarking, we will see whether our policy is holding or sub-holding. From the initial benchmarking, it is confirmed that we have to spin off the power plant to become a separate sub-holding, because many countries are like that,” said Erick during a press conference at the Ministry of SOEs, Wednesday (19/1/2022).
With the entire sub holding power plant, then there will be a massive transition to new and renewable energy (EBT) power generation. However, how can the sub-holding not burden the central PLN’s finances, which currently has a debt of Rp 500 trillion.
“So the sub-holding must look for other funding alternatives, whether corporate action. Because it is impossible for us to ask for debt or PMN (state investment) continuously, corporate action will be considered,” explained Erick.
As for the consolidation of the sub-holding formation, there will be a power plant derivative that will be included in the sub-holding. One of them is PT PLN Batubara as a company engaged in seeking primary energy from coal to PLN.
There are indeed two options for PLN Coal, whether to be disbanded or merged into the sub-holding power plant. This is considering the Food Holding in which there is a combination of several companies.
“And PLN itself will focus on transmission and while on marketing. This is roughly the picture. But what was conveyed by the Deputy Minister (Pahala Mansuri) regarding beyond kwh outside electricity, there are cables everywhere we benchmarking in other countries this independence can be increased to become a mobile PLN by fiber optic-her,” he said.
President Director of PT PLN (Persero), Darmawan Prasodjo, said that his party was following the direction of Erick Thohir.
“If an organization has to be changed so that supply chain business processes can be changed from unreliable, full of risk, to reliable, efficient and effective. Everything will be done, including one review of the legal operational business processes and organizational structure as well as human resources towards the liquidation of PLN Batubara so that business processes are more efficient and effective,” said Darmawan.
